Abstract: »The Independent Commission on Sexual Abuse in the Church appears as a purely private matter at first glance: it was at the sole initiative of the institutions representing French Catholicism - the French Bishops' Conference and the Conference of Religious of France - that the Commission was set up in 2018; the results of its research and reflections were submitted to these institutions in 2021, following a process of independent work. However, we cannot stop at this observation. Exploring the different phases of the Sauvé Commission's trajectory confronts us with the constant intervention of the State along a course that leads, as we have seen on other issues, to reconfigure the French model of secularism in a neo-Gallican direction.« (Source: Revue du droit des religions)
